Girard Sharp Appointed Co-Lead Counsel in Equifax FCRA Litigation
Girard Sharp today was appointed interim lead counsel, along with co-counsel at Gibbs Law Group and DiCello Levitt, in litigation arising from Equifax’s misreporting of credit scores in the spring of 2022 for millions of Americans applying for mortgages, car loans, credit lines, credit cards, and other loans and forms of financing.
As a result of the inaccurate credit reports Equifax furnished lenders, consumers were denied loans or required to accept higher interest rates or pay higher down payments than otherwise would have applied. Equifax attributed the widespread problem to a coding “glitch” and indicated that credit scores in many cases were wrong by 25 points or more. Although the problem affected Equifax’s reporting from March 17 to April 6, Equifax did not begin notifying lenders of the errors until May 2022.
The consolidated complaint will be filed in 30 days. The case is entitled In re Equifax Fair Credit Reporting Act Litigation, No. 1:22-cv-03072-LMM (N.D. Ga.).
