More Information on the Surfside Investigation
According to Shimon Wdowinski, a professor at Florida International University, the building that tragically collapsed on June 24 was sinking at a rate of about 2 millimeters per year in the 1990s and since then has continued to steadily sink. The results of Wdowinski’s study—in which he specifically mentioned the 12-story condominium building—were published in April 2020.
In 2015, a lawsuit filed by a building resident alleged that poor building management was responsible for water intrusion and cracks in the walls.
