More Information on Malfunctioning Solar Panels

Many of the malfunctions may have originated from a defect in the Snap-RS device, an inline disconnect device designed to rapidly shut down power to individual solar panels. These parts have been found to be overactive, which can cause melting or burning events at customer homes and are alleged to have caused at least two fires.

Generac, the manufacturer of the Snap-RS part, developed a firmware update aimed at fixing the the overactive Snap-RS. Instead, the update shut down portions of customer systems and created adverse effects on the production of customer solar systems.

You may be entitled to relief even if you have obtained a repair on your solar panels if the repair did not compensate you fully for the reduced power production caused by a defective component.
