More Information on the Hyundai/Kia Tow Hitch Fire Recall

On August 23, 2022, Hyundai reportedly announced a recall of the 2020-2022 Kia Telluride and 2020-2022 Hyundai Palisade based on a fault in the circuit board of an accessory tow hitch installed on some of the vehicles. According to the reports, moisture and contamination on the circuit boards may cause them to short-circuit and catch fire while parked or driving. The first instance of such a fire or melting incident reportedly occurred in early 2021.

This recall was later extended to the 2016-2022 Kia Sorento, 2021-2023 Kia Sorento HEV, 2022-2023 Kia Sorento PHEV, and 2017-2022 Kia Sportage models, which may have had the same faulty tow hitch installed.

The manufacturer reportedly has not yet found a solution to the problem and has advised vehicle owners to park their vehicles outside and away from any buildings.
