Girard Sharp is investigating reports that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090’s power adapter has been overheating and melting. The GeForce RTX 4090 is a graphics card/GPU, primarily used for gaming. The product was released on October 12, 2022, and reports of overheating and melting reportedly began as early as October 24, just twelve days after the release.

These reports indicate that Nvidia knew of the problem before the product was released on October 12, 2022. PCI-SIG reportedly warned in early September that 12VHPWR connectors, used by Nvidia for the GeForce RTX 4090, may be particularly at risk for overheating.

Consumers have reported damage to their adapters as well as the GPU itself.
