Overview of Reported Misconduct and Subsequent Litigation
The “Free File” program is a simple online system provided by the Internal Revenue Service allowing taxpayers to prepare and file their federal and state taxes online for free. Since 2002, TurboTax has been in a partnership with the IRS to provide free online tax-preparation and filing to lower income taxpayers, an agreement which has been renewed through October 31st, 2021.
However, in recent lawsuits filed against Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, the firm is alleged to have actively discouraged millions of taxpayers from using this free software for years by deliberately concealing the free filing program from customers, and instead steering them to its own paid programs.
If you earn less than $66,000 and have paid to file taxes through TurboTax, you may have a claim for relief. Protect your rights by speaking with a Girard Sharp public protection attorney (dial 866-981-4800) or by submitting your information in the form above.
