Varsity Spirit, USASF, and USA Cheer are the governing organizations of a majority of the national cheerleading competitions, and run cheer camps across the United States. These organizations sponsor gyms across the country to train youth in cheerleading and allow them to compete in the organizations national cheer competitions.

According to a recent article in USA Today, certain of these gyms are employing coaches and staff members who were convicted of sexual assault and are on the national sex offender registry. The FBI also arrested a coach at one of these gyms for producing child pornography. In addition, USA Today reports that USASF did not ban certain coaches even after they were arrested for sexually abusing children at their gyms.
