Cheerleading Sexual Abuse Investigation
Girard Sharp attorneys are investigating allegations of child abuse and sexual assault by cheerleading coaches, choreographers, and other staff members connected to the sport. Recent articles report that many cheerleading facilities are employing coaches and staff that are on the national sex offender registry and some children that attend these programs have been victims of sexual abuse by staff members. It has been reported that many of these facilities are sponsored by Varsity Spirit, US All Star Federation (USASF), and USA Cheer.

More Details on Cheerleading Child Abuse Investigation
Varsity Spirit, USASF, and USA Cheer are the governing organizations of a majority of US national cheerleading competitions, makers of cheerleading uniforms and gear, and organizers of cheer camps that help train children across the United States. These organizations sponsor gyms across the country allowing these children to compete in their national cheer competitions.
A recent article by USA Today uncovered many of these sponsored gyms are employing staff members and coaches that are on the national sex offender registry and convicted of sexual assault. Recently, one of the coaches at these gyms was arrested by the FBI for production of child pornography.
“USA TODAY identified nearly 180 individuals affiliated with cheerleading who have faced charges relating to sexual misconduct involving minors but were not banned by the sport’s two governing bodies, USASF and USA Cheer. More than 140 of them – a group that includes coaches, choreographers, and others directly tied to the activity – have been convicted, and 74 are registered sex offenders.”
