Samsung’s advertisements for its S7 Phones claim that they are “water resistant up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.” Its television commercials for the S7 Phones show people snorkeling, surfing, and even dunking an S7 Phone in a fish tank. Samsung’s website includes a video showing an S7 Phone emerging from a pool of water and remaining fully operational.
According to multiple reports, however, Galaxy S7 phones are not water resistant. Plaintiffs allege that, despite purchasing Galaxy S7 phones after believing them to be water resistant, their phones were permanently damaged after they briefly exposed them to shallow water. The Galaxy S7 phones of many other consumers likewise have sustained damage from exposure to liquid or moisture.
And Samsung would not provide free in-warranty repairs or replace these phones when they failed after being briefly exposed to water.
