Acting as co-lead counsel, Girard Sharp helped secure a $215 million settlement in the campus gynecologist abuse class action.
On February 25, 2020, the district court approved this landmark settlement, the largest class action settlement to date of claims of sexual abuse.
The settlement benefits women subjected to sexual misconduct by USC campus gynecologist George Tyndall. Claimants can recover up to $250,000 each. The settlement recognizes all women who were patients of Tyndall and gives survivors a choice on how they want to participate, featuring an innovative three-tiered claims process that is both straightforward and confidential. In addition to providing generous cash relief, the settlement establishes specific reforms at USC to ensure that the types of abuse at issue in the case can never again happen at the university. No class member objected to final approval.
